Reviews for Estes 1292 Wizard Flying Model Rocket Kit (Toy) I built this rocket for my youngest son (4 years old). He loves it, and asked me to hang it from his light in his room. We painted it black, rather than the suggested blue, and it looks great. The only issue is that the decals for the fins don't quite fit right, but he doesn't care.
We have flown it, and it really goes. With the largest engines, it flys well over 1000 feet, and recovers well. I'm sure we could break it, but it would also be easily repaired. It does eject its engine when the recovery charge blows, so watch out. Overall, it is a fun rocket to fly, and according to my 4 year old, the best rocket ever.
Reviews for Estes 1292 Wizard Flying Model Rocket Kit (Toy) I built and flew my first Estes Wizard in 1979. I was initially impressed with the simple, but striking white/purple/black color scheme, but that all changed when I saw it fly. I loaded it with a C6-5 and in one of my less well thought out ideas, flew it from the front yard of my parents house. No one who saw that flight was unimpressed, myself included. Even though I lost the rocket when it landed in the rain gutter of a house at the top of the street, I never forgot how quickly it accelerated off the pad and how amazingly high it went.
Reviews for Estes 1292 Wizard Flying Model Rocket Kit (Toy) As a science teacher, we do a rocket build project at the end of our unit on spaceflight. Every year, I get the Wizard kits for my students. The directions are clear and uncomplicated. The rocket itself is light, durable, and very easy to assemble. One year, a different model was on sale and I bought them for my class. The competitor's rocket was more complicated to build and much heavier which caused it not to fly as high as the Wizard. Since then, I've gone back to the Wizard every time and the kids are always thrilled. Yes, the decals (stickers) are cheesy, but with some care and planning, a good paint job is more than adequate.
